My name is Eric with PIRGIM (www.pirgim.org), Michigan's statewide public interest advocacy group. I am hoping that as a member of Michigan State University’s faculty, you can help get the word out to students about our internship program.
Our internship program gives students the opportunity to work on important issues, gain valuable experience, learn skills related to organizing and public action, and help make a difference.
This semester, PIRGIM will be working on a variety of issues, like expanding the Bottle Bill, keeping Michigan's communities free of toxics, ensuring the accountability of Michigan's state and local governments, and other important and exciting campaigns!
Can you send the email below to your students? Please let me know if you do – you can include me in the email if that's easiest.
My name is Louise Gradwohl, Director at the Old Town Commercial Association. Madalyn Kaltz suggested that I contact you about internship opportunities. I am currently seeking out applicants for our Design, Communications and Video Production internships: http://iloveoldtown.org/otca-interns
I have had wonderful experiences with Comm Arts Students in the past, and am a grad myself - but haven't had as many applications as I would like to fill the positions I have available this semester. If you would be willing to share this with interested students that would be incredible!
Thank you for your time! Have a wonderful evening!
We were just going through the applications for our 2014 internships. I was surprised to see that we’ve only had a few MSU applicants at this time. We've had great success with getting good MSU applicants in the past and I’d hate for your students to miss out on this opportunity. Just want to make sure we have a strong MSU showing again this year. Anything more we can do? Central Michigan and UT both had quite a large application base so far, in case that ignites any friendly competition!
You can let the students know that these are well paid internships that also include housing and a moving allotment, that may be a concern for many students.

Tips:
Customize your cover letter (address to our founder & president, Heather Huhman) and resume for this position. We deal with career stuff all day long, so we can tell if you don't do it!
This isn't a media relations or writing internship. Do not include how experienced you are in those areas in your cover letter or resume.
This is a social media internship -- and we expect you to already have a strong foundation prior to joining us. You will learn plenty more, but we expect you to have the basics down. So, focus on your previous social media experience in your cover letter and resume! (However, if you happen to have video editing and production experience, we'd love to hear about that too!)
While we prefer a minimum of two prior internships, quality is better than quantity -- if you have had one extremely social media intensive internship in the past, that will weigh more heavily than someone who has had three generic PR or marketing internships. (It's worth repeating: Focus your application on your social media experience!)
The goal -- for us -- of this internship is to hire you at the end. But we typically only have one spot and multiple interns competing for it. This is a competition! You will be judged from the very beginning. So if you aren't fairly certain this is what you want to do as a career, please don't apply.
Considering the goal for us is to hire you at the end, don't talk about how you want to be doing nonprofit PR or work in politics or whatever in your cover letter, resume, and interviews. If you aren't somewhat certain you'd like to work in an agency environment with clients like ours, please don't apply!
Additional Information
We look forward to receiving your application! All your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.
