ADCRAFT network
There's an upcoming event for Adcraft in Detroit that I think could benefit a lot of students who are looking to network and want to take some extra time to learn about the industry. Jann Wenner, Founder of Rolling Stone Magazine, will be there to speak on May 19 at the Detroit Athletic Club. He, along with a TON of advertising professionals from the Detroit area, will be there. GREAT opportunity to network and schmooze with some of the elite in advertising.
Here's the URL: https://www.adcraft.org/i4a/forms/form.cfm?id=91
It's $30 for students, but they'll be eating lunch and mixing with the big boys from McCann, Team Detroit, Leo Burnett, etc. Feel free to pass this along to your students!

Sterling Corp
Sterling is looking for enthusiastic and motivated public relations and political interns to assist with a variety of client projects. We can offer real, practical experience for our interns. It’s not about making copies or coffee (although that may happen too); it’s about hands-on work for our clients and being a contributing part of our account teams. As mentioned above, Sterling is a conservative firm. That means on the political side we work for Republican candidates, committees, and causes; and on the public relations/issue management side we generally work with the business community, children and family advocacy and with conservative causes and issues.
Sterling interns also have a head start in gaining employment after graduation. Sterling’s strong connections with the Governor’s office, Senate Majority Leader and House Speaker – as well as our GOP Congressional delegation – will be leveraged to help our interns find optimal employment.
The types of assignments our interns receive include the following:
For public relations interns:
- Drafting and issuing news releases
- Booking talk radio
- Setting up news conferences
- Social media
- Message development
- Strategic communications plan development

Detroit Zoo Seeks PR Interns for “Wild” Summer
Want to mingle with the macaronis and pal around with the polar bears while learning valuable PR and communications skills? Then the Detroit Zoo has the internship for you!
The Zoo is seeking student interns for the summer semester who are in their junior or senior year and studying Public Relations, Communications or related fields. Interns will be responsible for researching and drafting press releases, talking points, newsletter profiles, Facebook status updates and other PR-related copy; scheduling and coordinating media interviews; escorting media through the Zoo during video/photo shoots; assisting with commercial and motion picture film shoots and special events; and performing other PR-related assignments.

The duration of the internship is early May through late August; 24 hours (three days) per week. This is a non-paid internship, and it is mandatory that students receive course credit.
The Detroit Zoological Society is an Equal Opportunity Employer and is committed to diversity in the workforce. The Society performs background checks and pre-employment substance-abuse screening and maintains a drug-free workplace.
The deadline for resumes is March 11, 2011.
