ARTS COUNCIL OF GREATER LANSING

AVAILABLE POSITION: Communications and Events Internship

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, regular business hours.

Approximately 10 hours per week.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Communications and Events Intern will assist the Arts Council with a number of projects including developing communications materials and press releases, managing web site content and social media, and additional projects as needed. The intern will also assist Arts Council staff in coordinating the 25th annual Silver Bells in the City event held in downtown Lansing on Nov. 20, 2009, the Arts Council’s 30th annual holiday fundraiser Holiday Glitter on Dec. 1, 2009, and additional Arts Council events and activities. The intern will work with a wide variety of individuals including artists, arts and cultural organizations, Arts Council personnel and Board members, City of Lansing personnel, the downtown Lansing business community, community volunteers and other area leaders.

REQUIREMENTS:

* Associates degree or equivalent experience with major course work in communications, marketing, events planning or a related field. Creative background or a special affinity for the arts is highly desirable.
* Microsoft Office proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Experience with Adobe Acrobat Professional, Photoshop and other design programs are highly desirable. Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must.
* The intern must also be able to work extended hours during certain times of the year, particularly Nov. 16-20, and Dec. 1, 2009.
* To perform the essential functions of the job, an individual may be required to maintain a physical condition necessary for walking, standing, and sitting for long periods of time, general manual dexterity; adequate hearing, vision and speech; and carrying/moving/lifting some moderately heavy objects.
