Come Recommended

Social Media Trainee (Spring & Summer 2013)

Location: Virtual/Remote, United States
Company Description
Come Recommended is a content marketing and digital PR consultancy for organizations with products that target job seekers and/or employers. We specialize in driving leads to–and increasing conversions for–our clients using proven strategic tactics, such as content development, social media marketing, media relations, search engine optimization, and web design and development.
Simply put, we help your company get found, get clients, and get the recognition you deserve. After all, how will the job seeker, hiring manager, recruiter, or HR pro know about your products if you aren’t marketed properly?
Come Recommended was founded in 2008 by Heather R. Huhman, a widely-recognized thought leader and expert in the careers space with a decade of experience as a hiring manager and public relations specialist. Having sat on both sides of the hiring table, our team provides a niche service that is unmatched by other creative agencies.

Job Description
Social Media Trainees are expected to work up to 15 hours per week. However, this is a virtual position, which means no commute and you can largely work when you are available (although it must be during regular business hours)! Please note applicants must reside in one of the following states: PA, MD, NJ, WV, IL, MI, or FL. The position will begin immediately and end on Friday, August 30, 2013.
What you can expect to learn:
  • Help research trends and generate creative content for social media platforms to drive positive brand sentiment.
  • Day-to-day execution of all social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Google+, etc.) for clients.
  • Monitor social media to capture customer trends, conversations about our clients, as well as opportunities to better meet customer needs.
  • Stay up-to-date on new social media trends and methods for integrating those technologies into the platform.
  • Help strategize an editorial calendar for Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, and Twitter platforms.
  • Write clear, persuasive, original copy to be pushed out on all social media platforms.

Compensation:
 $600/month

Additionally, you will be assigned reading material throughout the internship. If that material happens to be a book (or other form of paid media), Come Recommended will purchase it for you — and you get to keep it! Finally, all interns receive free career coaching from Come Recommended — and course credit if desired.

Qualifications:
  • Dedicated to the mission of Come Recommended – connecting job seekers with employers
  • Applicants must reside in one of the following states: PA, MD, NJ, WV, IL, MI, or FL
  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree or recent graduate in PR, journalism or a related field
  • Minimum of two prior related internships preferred
  • Basic knowledge of social media platforms, i.e. Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+, Tumblr, StumbleUpon, etc.
  • Advanced knowledge of PhotoShop and other similar programs desired but not required
  • Driven, self-motivated and enthusiastic
  • Ability to deliver quality work in a fast-paced, high-volume, deadline-driven environment
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and independent thinker (no “yes” men or women allowed!)
  • Able to work independently, but under supervision (virtually/from home)
  • Access to the Internet
  • BONUS: prior experience developing and editing audio and video

Tips:
  • Customize your cover letter (address to our founder & president, Heather Huhman) and resume for this position. We deal with career stuff all day long, so we can tell if you don't do it!
  • This isn't a media relations or writing internship. Do not include how experienced you are in those areas in your cover letter or resume.
  • This is a social media internship -- and we expect you to already have a strong foundation prior to joining us. You will learn plenty more, but we expect you to have the basics down. So, focus on your previous social media experience in your cover letter and resume! (However, if you happen to have video editing and production experience, we'd love to hear about that too!)
  • While we prefer a minimum of two prior internships, quality is better than quantity -- if you have had one extremely social media intensive internship in the past, that will weigh more heavily than someone who has had three generic PR or marketing internships. (It's worth repeating: Focus your application on your social media experience!)
  • The goal -- for us -- of this internship is to hire you at the end. But we typically only have one spot and multiple interns competing for it. This is a competition! You will be judged from the very beginning. So if you aren't fairly certain this is what you want to do as a career, please don't apply.
  • Considering the goal for us is to hire you at the end, don't talk about how you want to be doing nonprofit PR or work in politics or whatever in your cover letter, resume, and interviews. If you aren't somewhat certain you'd like to work in an agency environment with clients like ours, please don't apply!

Additional Information
We look forward to receiving your application! All your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.
