Michigan Economic Development $


The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) is seeking two student interns for a new state college retention program, LiveWorkExplore.  The interns will travel to five economic development regions this June to explore the live, work, and play aspects of each region from a young adult perspective. During their stay, they will utilize various social media techniques including blogs, Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare and YouTube to document their travels.

The interns will receive an hourly wage of $15 per hour for up to 40 hours per week for up to six weeks, including training and travel.  Interns will also receive a travel stipend and/or travel reimbursement.

The MEDC is a public-private partnership serving as the state's marketing arm and lead agency for businesstalent and jobstourismfilm and digital incentivesarts and cultural grants, and overall economic growth.  For more information, go to www.michiganadvantage.org.

Duties
·        Travel to 5 Michigan regions to explore live, work and play aspects of the region
·        Meet with local economic developers, employers and other partners
·        Submit weekly blog posts
·        Post daily in Facebook with photos
·        Tweet daily in Twitter
·        Check in in Foursquare at each new location
·        Post weekly YouTube videos
·        Give a final presentation to the MEDC
·        Other duties, as assigned

Objectives
1.      Promote Michigan regions to college students and young professionals through social media exposure.
2.      Educate regional partners about the interns’ findings during their travels so that the region may attract more young professionals in the future.
3.      Increase interest in college students and young professionals staying in or coming to the State of Michigan.
4.      Increase interest in high-demand fields where there is currently a skill gap.

Timeline
·        May 20-27, 2013              Orientation and training for participants
·        June 1, 2013                       Travel begins
·        July 1, 2013                        Travel Ends
·        July 1-15, 2013                  Prepare final presentation for the MEDC
·        July 15, 2013                      Present to the MEDC

·        South Central (Ann Arbor)
·        Southeast (Detroit)
·        Upper Peninsula (Marquette)
·        West (Grand Rapids)
·        Northwest (Traverse City)

Requirements
·        Junior undergraduate standing through graduate standing or college graduate within the last 6 months with a maximum age of 25
·        In good academic standing with at least a 2.7 cumulative GPA
·        Pass background check and drug test
·        Experience in social media, communications, photography, and media technology preferred
·        Communication, public relations and marketing majors preferred
·        Valid driver’s license
·        Transportation for all travel

·        College transcripts
·        Video and blog promoting the applicant’s region to college students and young professionals as a post-graduation destination.  Video must be 2 minutes or less and blog 400 words or less.  The blog must be submitted in a Word document.  Photos may be included and should be embedded in the Word document.  A link to the video should be included in the email submission.
