ADV INTERN

Communications and Advertising Intern
Michigan Pharmacists Association currently has an opening for a Communications and Advertising
Intern. The position would begin in March, and the end date would be based on candidate’s
availability. Our hope is to establish this as a long-term position, helping the individual gain valuable
experience and add pieces to their portfolio. The individual in this position will assist with
advertising sales efforts, marketing, writing projects and social media. This is an excellent
opportunity for those looking for real world experience in preparation for a career in advertising or
communications.
Qualifications:
Experience in advertising and/or communications
Experience utilizing social media tools, including Facebook, Twitter and HootSuite
Currently enrolled in college-level classes in advertising or a communications-related field
High school graduate
Flexible scheduling; most hours will be between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday
Must have own transportation
Potential Internship Activities:
Assist with advertising sales efforts, including compilation of a contact list for prospective
and past advertisers. An advertising kit is available to assist with activities. MPA offers
advertising in our quarterly journal as well as homepage billboards on our Web site and
sponsorship of our member newsletter.
Help with marketing activities, including promotion of MPA’s Pharmacy Certified
Technician Training Manual and e-publication version that will be available for sale in the
iBookstore through Apple.
Assist with managing social media sites, including MPA’s Twitter feed and three Facebook
pages. In addition, MPA has a Twitter feed set up for a public relations campaign that occurs
in October of each year, surrounding Michigan Pharmacy Week. Develop ideas for growing
MPA’s social media following and innovative post topics that engage members and
encourage feedback, as well as discounts and offerings that will encourage followers to
return.
Complete various writing assignments for publication in Michigan Pharmacist journal and
Pharmacy Insights.
Solicit authors for continuing education articles that encourage continuous professional
development of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
Other Details:
Number of hours per week will depend on the intern’s schedule. Preferably, the internship
will begin in March and run for the length of time that the candidate is available (potential
for long-term over the course of the intern’s educational program)
Internship will be unpaid, but intern will build valuable advertising sales and marking
experience as well as a solid portfolio of writing. Intern also has the potential to be a
published writer and gain experience in a wide variety of areas in communications. There is a
possibility that the right candidate could be paid a commission of ad sales in the future.
If your college or university offers you the opportunity to earn class credit(s) for internship
hours, we would be happy to assist you with that process!
Intern will be supervised by the MPA Director of Communications, who has worked in the
communications, technology and journalism fields.
Intern will have an office and access to a computer, e-mail and office phone.
How to Apply:
MPA is accepting applications for the Communications Intern through Friday, March 15.
Interviews will be conducted the week of March 18 and the internship will begin in late
March or early April. Those interested must complete an application and e-mail to MPA
Director of Communications Leah Ball at Leah@MichiganPharmacists.org.
